Perhaps not as good as The Jinx, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief has its fair share of strange, interesting and downright scary. Why? Because it’s a documentary about Scientology. Not only are viewers are given a profile of the creator L. Ron Hubbard but also where the ‘religion’ (I use that word loosely), was derived from and it’s defiantly worth a watch on that basis for you science fiction lovers. What makes this documentary so great is the interviews of former members, both celebrity and not and their life during and after Scientology. The story that remains with me was the one of a man who had been stocked by two members of the religion (or cult) relentlessly for years to the point his wife filed a lawsuit against church leader David Miscavige, and the tale of a woman who literally planned and executed an escape from the church. But leaving doesn’t mean they’re free. Just to highlight a few choice words to describe going clear, see the follow:

  • Detach from people
  • Cult
  • Psychological abuse
  • Tax exemptions
  • Bullying the IRS
  • Dirt cheap labor
  • Blackmail
  • Recordings
  • Manipulation

I would give this 4 1/2 Bucks. 😉
